Overview ADQ DSP is a digital signal processing board featuring a Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA, data memory, and various host connections. ADQ DSP support peer-to-peer streaming for real time signal processing. Your custom application is integrated into ADQ DSP by the DSP Development Kit, which is a development project that opens the FPGA for custom designs.
ADQ DSP is also the digital back end board for the ADQ V6 Digitizer family. An ADQ V6 Digitizer is built up by an analog front end board (AFE) and a ADQ DSP. The ADQ V6 Digitizer is equipped with FPGA firmware and API for a digitizer application. Custom real time signal processing applications are implemented using the ADQ Development Kit which opens the FPGA for the user. Fundamental digitizer functions are included in the ADQ Development Kit. ADQ V6 Digitizers also features SP Devices’ technology for interleaving of ADCs, which enables unique high sampling rate.
Interface to the Host The board connects to the host via a high-speed USB 2.0 cable or through a Compact PCI Express / PXI Express interface. All interface types allows for streaming of data at high transfer rates.
Software Development Kit (SDK) The ADQ DSP comes with an easy-to-use API that allows easy integration into any application. Software tools for application development include C/C++, Matlab and DLLs for Windows XP/Vista.
DSP Development Kit The DSP Development Kit is a tool for ADQ DSP users, that enables you to implement your own algorithm in the Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA. The DSP Development Kit has a FIFO like input and output interfaces so that you don't need to hassle with the lower layer PCI Express interfaces. It is provided with example implementation code to get you started.
ADQ Development Kit The ADQ Development Kit is a tool for ADQ V6 Digitizer users, that enables you to implement your own algorithm in the Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA. The ADQ Development Kit contains necessary building blocks for interfacing the built in digitizer functionality. It is provided with example implementation code to get you started.
Peer-to-Peer Streaming By utilizing the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) streaming technology from SP Devices, data from an ADQ Device can be routed directly to a ADQ DSP processing board without any CPU or RAM usage. Processed data results are sent to the host without any penalty for the P2P streaming. As illustrated in the figure below each board has its own independent IN and OUT ports. The P2P technology utilizes a feature that enables the switch to route the ports independently, thereby enabling the penalty free data flow. The IN and OUT ports has up to 8 PCI Express lanes each. The bandwidth is higly depending on system configuration, a typical 4 lane backplane are capable of rates in the range of 400 to 700 MB/s.
